We are a small, independent team of Nordic travelers who got tired of guides that read like brochures. Explore Nord exists to help you understand the North on its own terms — the long light and the long dark, the trains that actually run on time, the towns worth an extra night, and the honest cost of getting there.
We cover five countries in depth: Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland. We are not affiliated with any government tourism office, hotel chain, or airline. No destination pays to appear on this site, and no partner has ever bought a favourable mention. What you read here is what we would tell a friend planning the same trip.
Our mission
Practical, trustworthy, ad-light Nordic travel help — for real trips, not clicks.
The Nordic countries are among the most rewarding — and most expensive — places to travel in Europe. Getting a trip right takes good information: when to go, what a week really costs, which route saves a day, and where the crowds thin out. Our mission is to make that information clear, current, and free to use.
We keep the site deliberately ad-light. You will not find pop-ups chasing you down the page, autoplay video, or walls of display banners. We would rather earn your trust once than your attention a hundred times. When we do recommend something, it is because we think it genuinely helps your trip.
What makes us different
Tools we built because we wanted them ourselves.
Free GPS audio walking tours
Self-guided, GPS-aware audio tours of Nordic cities — narrated, mapped, and built for walking pace. No app store, no ticket, no guide to keep up with.
Live aurora forecast
Real geomagnetic activity and KP-index, so you can judge for yourself whether tonight is worth staying up for the Northern Lights.
Live events
Concerts, festivals, and exhibitions across all five countries, refreshed regularly — so you can plan around what is actually happening while you visit.
A real trip planner
Build an itinerary day by day, estimate a realistic budget, and see where to stay — all in one place, without an account.
A curated shop
A small, hand-picked selection of Nordic-made goods and travel essentials, with secure checkout — chosen for quality, not margin.
Independent by design
Five countries, one editorially independent team. We answer to travelers, not to advertisers or a parent company.
How we keep the lights on
The honest version — because you deserve to know how a free site pays for itself.
Explore Nord is reader-supported through affiliate partnerships. When you book transport, tours, or stays through some of our links — with partners such as Omio, Expedia, and GetYourGuide, among others — we may earn a commission. This comes at no extra cost to you; you pay the same price you would going direct.
That commission is what funds the audio tours, the live forecasts, the planner, and the writing — all of which stay free. Crucially, our recommendations are editorially independent: we choose what to feature on the basis of whether it helps your trip, never on which partner pays the most. A commission never buys a better review, and a place does not need to be a partner to be recommended.
Editorial standards
How we try to earn — and keep — your trust.
We fact-check what we publish and correct it when we get it wrong. Prices, opening hours, and transport details in the North change with the season, so we review and update our guides on a seasonal rhythm rather than writing once and walking away.
We disclose our partnerships plainly, label sponsored and affiliate links, and keep advertising separate from editorial judgement. Above all, we welcome corrections — if you spot something out of date, wrong, or unclear, tell us and we will fix it. A guide is only as good as its last update, and our readers are our best editors.
Built in the Nordics
Made with care in the North, and run to European standards.
