Accessibility Statement
Our commitment to making Explore Nord usable by everyone
Last updated: 2026-04-08
1. Our commitment
Explore Nord is committed to making its website accessible in accordance with the European Accessibility Act (Directive (EU) 2019/882) and its Swedish implementation, as well as the harmonised European standard EN 301 549 v3.2.1, which incorporates Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 level AA.
2. Conformance status
This website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. "Partially conformant" means that some parts of the content do not yet fully conform to the accessibility standard. We are actively working to reach full conformance.
3. Accessible features already in place
- Semantic HTML structure with proper landmarks (
<header>,<main>,<nav>,<footer>) - Descriptive page titles, headings hierarchy, and skip-to-content support
- Alt text on meaningful images
- Keyboard navigation for menus, forms, modals, and the cart
- Visible focus indicators on interactive elements
- Sufficient colour contrast in the main typography on a dark background
- Responsive layout that reflows on mobile and at 200% zoom without loss of functionality
- Forms with associated labels and error messages
- ARIA labels on the cookie banner and modal dialogs
langattribute set on the document
4. Known limitations
Despite our best efforts, the following parts of the site currently have known accessibility issues:
- Third-party booking widgets — GetYourGuide, Expedia, and other embedded widgets are not under our control; their accessibility level depends on the provider.
- The "Feeling Lucky" spinning wheel — the SVG wheel does not yet offer a non-visual alternative. We plan to add a text-based fallback in the next release.
- Older user photos — some community-uploaded images do not yet have alt text. We are retrofitting these.
- Interactive map pins — pin labels can be difficult to read for screen-reader users. A list-view alternative is on the roadmap.
5. Assessment approach
The accessibility of this website has been assessed by:
- Automated testing with axe-core and Lighthouse
- Manual keyboard and screen-reader testing
- Contrast checking against WCAG 1.4.3 and 1.4.11
We welcome independent audits by users and professional testers.
